Hey guys my neck is starting to swell! Hunting season is in the air. How is the dove population looking? How did the dry, hot weather affect the crop? I live in south OK and not much good to report here.
Eastern Texas panhandle reports 149% increase over last year. If true then western OK should be good too.
Last Thursday I saw a Dove nest with 2 juveniles unable to fly.
I've had quite a few dove hanging around my bird feeder all spring and summer until about 2 weeks ago, but now they have disappeared. I have no idea what that means in regards to the upcoming season though. Maybe the locals have started cutting crops so the dove have moved out to those fields.
Couple weeks ago, they were everywhere out west, wheat fields that hadent been turned over were full of them. The rain we get (always does) the week before the season opens should spread them out a little.
Headed to Ellis County August 31st for the 35th+ year in a row.
I’ve got too much to do to every September to get ready for deer season to dove hunt.
I’ll find out Monday. Been hunting a pond for two years now with phenomenal success. The main issue is the grass was so high we had to take a long time to find the birds while others were flying in.

Doves were coming in strong to the MOJO's this morning in Blaine, Co. Gave up some easy shots to give my 10 year old some shooting opportunities but we were still able to get 12 doves down in short order over wheat stubble.
Second evening hunt today on the burned wheat field. Limited yesterday but only managed 9 today.
