I am entertaining the notion to add an AR to the collection. Kind of new to ARs...have shot them, but never owned one. I have lurked around the forums and see that a build might come out with more quality for a similar price to some of the budget compete rifles. The gun would mainly be a range gun with the occasional coyote mixed in. Im not looking to compete in 3 gun or a gun that will drives tacks at 500 yds.

I have heard good things about the M&P sport model. As far as building one, I was also looking at the PSA website and found this

If put together with a quality lower, what would be wrong with this rifle? How would it compare to the M&P sport? Is there something better out there in the $700ish range?

Great questions! I'm in the same position, but have jumped in and purchased an Anderson lower from one of the board sponsors. Not wanting to hijack your post, I'll sit quietly and wait for all the excellent advise to start rolling in.....

Match that up with a $50 Anderson lower and you've got a rifle that I believe is nearly unbeatable for the price. Of course, that doesn't include any sights or optics, but that is a very, very solid starter rifle.

That is a pretty nice upper kit... but here is another option from the local boys.

I just matched an PSA Carbine upper to a complete PSA lower using a JBO BCG. My other AR15 is a RRA Elite Operator. I can tell you the fit & finish is a lot better on the RRA.
However, I haven't got to run the PSA yet. I think the RRA may have spoiled it a bit for me.

If I lived closer to T=Town I would drop by FBT. Hell I refered a buddy of mine in BA to go by there Saturday. Picked up an Anderson lower for $60. Good guys to!
