Expired car tags

What is the law concerning expired car tags? I see some that are expired for 6 months. I know it is a $0.25 per day late fee but can the police give tickets for them?

Absolutely. Most cops will give you up to a month to get it taken care of. But a real prick of a cop can write you up for it being one day out. Just depends on what flatfoot stops you. That's called officer discretion.

I've seen paper tags as much as 4 years old on cars

That would require actual enforcement of existing laws. The vehicle should be impounded after 60 days. If they haven't registered it you can bet they don't have insurance either.

If they drive on public roads they can pay their share to do so. If someone can afford a car they can afford the registration and tag. The actions of the state on this matter are not illegal? Why do you think they are?

It's a 60 day window now. I bought a new ago almost a month ago and I still haven't received my paperwork from the dealer to get my TTL.
