I am wanting a new shotgun. I want to shoot turkey, dove, intruders, 3-gun matches and *maybe* duck but I doubt it. Would prefer black over camo and definitely don't want wood. I want something that can be somewhat tactical when needed so I'm thinking Mossberg or Remington. I really like semi-auto's but geez they are expensive.

What models should I look for?

Where's the best place to get them (price)?

How much speed/accuracy am I REALLY losing by getting a pump instead of a semi-auto?

One of the Noveske guys uses a pump for 3Gun. You can get a used Benelli M1 or M2 for AROUND $650 if you look well enough. They come up for that price every couple weeks between Gunbroker, Enos forum, USPSA, and other more obscure sites. Which is what you'll need to do for a 3Gun semi. Then you can have it tuned for a few hundred more dollars, and it's still way less expensive than a new Benelli.

Just because Jansen from the Noveske team uses one doesn't recommend one for 3-gun in general. Jansen shoots in the heavy metal division and is requiered to use a pump in that division.

for as many things as you are wanting to do with it, I would either go with a rem. 870 or mossy 500, with those you could get a longer barrel for the hunting, and still have your short barrel for your tatical needs. I wanted to do this, and ended up buying an escort, well suprise buy a cheap shotgun and there are no aftermarket parts available...

I was afraid you guys would say that (Benelli). I almost won one at the Hunting and Fishing show at the Spirit event center a month or so ago. I entered in two drawings for Benelli's and in one of them (for the Claremore VFW), they gave away 15-20 prizes. They started at the bottom of the list with the least expensive prizes and worked their way up. I won the prize before the Benelli, a pair (his and her) of handmade knives (Helton EDC (Every Day Carry) (http://www.heltonknives.com/)), which is very cool, but I REALLY wanted that shotgun.

Whats the diff between an M1 and an M2? I've seen an M1 that just looks like a regular shotgun, then I've seen another one that looked just like an M2 with pistol grip stock, ghost ring sights, etc.

Not a lot. The recoil system in the stock is a bit different and the chokes aren't compatible. Not all M2s have pistol grip stocks. Do some searching on this forum and you'll find some good info from the Benelli guru, KurtM. A M1/M2 with a 20-24" vent rib barrel and Nordic mag extension is the ticket for just about everything.

You can save $100-$500 and be disappointed with a FN, Mossberg or Remington...or you can buy a used M1 or M2 right and have the only shotgun you will ever need.
