I don't know... think about it. There is a significant (and growing) population of people in this country who are strongly socialist, having zero experience with poverty, loss, want, need or struggle. Everything has been peachy, the housing crisis that likely touched few of them personally is the biggest problem most of them have seen in their lives.

This seemingly BSC Congresscritter is appealing to these people, and when she finally leaves Congress, she could be set for LIFE (as if she isn't already) with speaking engagements, book deals and tours to rally support for the socialist agenda.

Obama did it, flipped many of his positions he campaigned on and he'll make the hundreds of millions the Clintons have pulled in look like a welfare check by the time it's all said and done.

She's sure getting a lot of airplay, getting more famous by the moment and bad press is good press, right?

Maybe she's playing the game. I find it hard to believe, but it IS a possibility.

Well, now, I can't disagree with anything you've said. I guess time will tell but I think they are pushing too hard too fast. Maybe in another couple of generations that will fly but not just yet. I feel for our kids and their kids ... And their kids' kids because you are right about one thing -- the dems aren't gonna stop until we look like Venezuela.

I'll paraphrase someone who once said something like "when the number of voters who are on the dole outnumber those who pay the taxes, you can kiss your ass goodbye. It's coming.:homer:
Yep. I believe it's probably: A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury - attributed to Alexander Fraser Tytler

It is interesting to note that Communism, as an economic system, eventually fails for much the same reason. The creed of Communism is "from each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs." Comrade Bill works hard all year to farm 80 acres of wheat. Comrade Jimmy only grows 5 turnips and usually sleeps most of the day. When harvest time comes, the government takes Bill's bountiful wheat harvest and Jimmy's 5 turnips, and gives each of them an equal amount of ration cards. It doesn't take long for Comrade Bill to wise up and stop working so hard. Eventually productivity fails on a large scale. So, when more people are sitting around than working, eventually the overall system fails. It doesn't matter if it is Democracy or Capitalism or Socialism or Communism or whatever. No nation is immune to the laws of economics.

Here, but occasionally There.
Actually, I've been told that the early settlers of America initiated a "commune" system. They soon learned the lesson pointed out by Wyatt M and did away with that system, simply because "Jimmy" did as "Jimmy" would do. Warren and the other socialists would do well to study economic history to see that capitalism is a far better system than socialism. Venezuela is a prime example of the failures of the socialist system, but sadly, the socialists just keep saying that "they didn't throw ENOUGH money" at the problems.
