I went to see it today. It was great! Not to blasphemy John Wayne, but the overall movie was much better than Wayne's version. Of course Matt Damon was way better than Glen Campbell. Jeff Bridges was good too. The girl who played Mattie Ross was great. It was much like the novel, and one of the best films the Coens have made.

I forgot that was coming out today!! I watched them film it down here in Tx. Pretty cool! We responed (FD) up to the movie set one day when a guy (one of the builders) fell off of the gallows a broke his leg (made a nice 90 degree angle) and possibly his neck. We landed a heilicopter right in the middle of the movie set to fly him out.

I really enjoyed the movie. Much better than the Duke's version (and i am a big John Wayne fan). Well acted and directed! Go see it!

I'm seeing a lot of this.

One reviewer put it well: this version shows the difference between being a great actor (Bridges) and a great star (Wayne).

I just saw it last night. It was great. Would have been even better if people wouldn't talk during movies.

How about the setting? The John Wayne version was supposed to take place in eastern Oklahoma, but was obviously filmed elswhere.

Woody

"Fill your hands, you son-of-a-*****!"

That was my only complaint - I don't know where they were, but it wasn't eastern Oklahoma.

I thought Jeff Bridges did an incredible job with the part. It was very well acted.

Matt Damon did a great job as well. My mom keeps talking about how not only did the man from Boston do a credible Texas accent, he did a credible Texas accent with a badly swollen tongue. :)

Josh Brolin and Barry Pepper were great in their roles as well.

But that little girl - How a 14 year old girl could stand her ground with the talent around her... I was very impressed. And, yes... she was cold. I'm pretty sure that was exactly how she was supposed to be - especially after you see the character as a grown up at the end. Cool, composed, self-assured, and profoundly determined. That's Maddie Ross, right there.

Go see it. Don't worry about whether you love John Wayne, whether you loved the original or if you never saw it. It was a really entertaining movie, and it stands quite well on it's own.
