I'm going to try to bring this thread down a notch. I can't agree more with the need for responsibility. Perhaps the reason I was becoming frustrated with you is I saw your need to reinforce how wrong benjamin was as somewhat hall-monitorish (I hate sounding like nutnfancy:sorry1:) I agree with you in the sentiment of paying latefees when late. I, being a subject of a HOA, also agree with Benjamin on how annoying they can be. In my case, I have had to pay late fees twice (monthly dues) in my three years here. I didn't complain, I just wrote a check. However, there is no consequence for the HOA not promptly fixing siding issues, not scraping snow from driveways, having trash pileup at the collection sites, etc., etc. I do attend meetings, but often wonder why I bother doing so when I see how unproductive they are. In addition, I don't see why you felt the need to single redneck out on a public forum for receiving money from his grandfather. Seemed a little out of place to me. I believe your message, though pure in essence, was delivered in a very negative way.

What??? Don't like the HOA and the contract that you signed??? How on earth do you expect leniency or exception to the contract that you read and agreed upon???? Oh....it's not enforced equally upon all members/neighbors?? Well...get used to it..it's just like our laws and government. However, one thing is for sure, if you pay on time or ahead of schedule, you won't get charged a late fee.

You, good sir, act as though you have some reading comprehension problems. I clearly conveyed that I expected no leniency and I paid my fines. Pardon me for expecting those HOA dues to go towards what the contract said they would. Just as my complaints in those meetings were wasted breath, anything said to you will fall on deaf ears. Good day to you sir... and may your perfect streak of punctual payments go on and on :thumb:.

Some of you are taking the internet tough-guy mentality to a whole new level. Guy was asking a question. Lighten up. Remember that this is an association of FRIENDS not enemies. If you come here to make enemies, I suggest you leave.

As for HOA's, mine is useless. They do no street maintenance during ice/snow. Grass and weeds are not taken care of on time. My dues are only $50-70 bucks a year though. I can't imagine having to pay $700!

My uncle in California, built a custom home in a gated HOA area.
Of course it being California he spent way to much.
Well he has heart attack and goes into hospital and triple bypass.
While he is there his HOA dues come due and aunt doesn't pay them (absent minded)
Comes out of hospital and into recovery............and HOA foreclosed on his home and sales it, to the brother of the HOA president.
Of course Uncle sued and lost because he had a binding contract

This was all in the Sacramento bee about 5 years ago.

Never, never do a contract in a HOA, they are little Fascist commies bastards.

Did ya all catch the one of a HOA order an old army vet to remove a American flag and flag pole from his front lawn?

Turns out he was a highly decorated WW2 vet with the C...M....H...

They decided after the extreme negative publicity to step away.

Point is, those HOA across the nation are FULL of horrible stories.
They are mini governments in and of them selves and true democracies....not republics.

No. The bigger point (the one that starts with individual responsibility instead of blaming someone else) is those mini governments would have zero power, or not exist at all, if people stopped buying houses in developments with HOAs that are poorly structured/run.

Just like on our national scale, people love giving up freedom in exchange for material goods.

Buyer: "What a great house. Is there an HOA?
Seller: "Yes"
Buyer: "Great, I'd like to see the rules"
Buyer gets copy of HOA rules, reads and understands them before making offer on home
Buyer to seller: "Sorry, your HOA is too restrictive"

Buyer buys a house somewhere else....
