same crap, different era

vicious war in europe
new military buildup
large, idle military
invasion of the middle east

I still have trouble reading you on occasion, LC.

Eisenhower was so right. Is it to late to create a political movement built around his principles? Or would that be too sane?

It would probably just get co-opted by goobers and whackos like the last one did. Ike wasn't about isolationism, obviously - more about not letting unwarranted fear infringe on freedom and prosperity. Now we have a bunch of weak girly-men who have made political careers out of whining and bitching about how the big scary world is out to get them rather than qualities of strength and leadership - because they posses neither. And that's what people wanted, I guess.

I don't respect any of them as men, much less as leaders. Pathetic.

I can't believe I've been calling for a return to Reagan's America. I feel like an *******!

Entire article slayed me. "...costarred in a movie with a chimpanzee..."

I agree with Ike. When you look back in history... big military is a beast that pretty much never stops because of success.

Ike obviously knew his history. Heck if you take out the middle east invasion then you get a lot more matches than just the dark ages.

I still have trouble believing anybody still falls for the old lefty "military-industrial complex" BS when military spending as a percentage of the budget has been dropping for decades and most of our military manufacturing companies are gone putting millions of Americans out of work. Almost as stupid as saying Santorum is going to turn the US into a theocracy. Something that has been said about every Republican presidential candidate for as long as I can remember.

So, Ike was a "lefty"? What military manufacturers are gone putting millions out of work? Enlighten me, please.

Ike was not but the lefties latched onto what he said and have used it as a political tool with the uninformed ever since.

As for military manufacturers being gone, Vought (still in business but barely and not really doing military anymore), Curtiss-Wright (still in business but barely), McDonnell Douglas like many others absorbed by Boeing because the military budget has shrunk so much they could no longer make it. These are just the aircraft companies. We used to have dozens of shipyards but most of them are gone too. A large part of the manufacturing jobs lost used to be with the military contractors, now we are looking overseas to buy a lot of our military equipment.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that many economist and others including investment firms are saying that the recent 400 billion in military cuts will result in up to 1 million layoffs over the next few years.

Please substantiate this. The labor force was 82M in 1970. I doubt that enough of them were manufacturing goods for the military for 3% of the US workforce to lose their jobs.

Yes, to a post-Reagan neocon Ike was a lefty. And a Paultard. And a commie. And anti-Semitic. And out to get us all killed.

And Ike knew nothing about war or the military, unlike great military leaders like Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich. Santorum served 8 years "on armed services", and he's our only hope to save our country from libtards like Ike. Ike's problem was he wasn't willing to bankrupt our country by being scared of his own shadow, which is a very non-conservative trait.

Also, keep in mind you're talking to RickN, a man who once called an article in the World Net Daily written by Pat Buchanan "lefty spin." Anything that goes against what Gingrich and Santorum say is lefty spin, and the sooner you learn that the better you'll be.
