Lowe's gave my father a discount on a freezer (he was purchasing for me) with his DD214. I think it was a July 4th or Memorial Day promotion or something.
I've never had a discount in 34 years that I can recall. Though I've never really asked for one either. And no place I've ever worked got any tax breaks either.
Lowes does military discounts, my former room mate brought his DD214 when he bought his zero turn mower from them 10% off.
Also you may see some hiring preference as well. My wife will hire a former military MT or MLT over one without the military service because she has had a higher success rate getting quality staff that way.

Yes, and I don't have any problem with WOTC. It does however come with qualifications. Old vets don't count.
They already know I am a vet without the ID. So the ID will change what they already know about me? I did not fill out any info when I joined. They have no info or data from me from my time served. So this ID will give them all the info I did not give them? Military checkpoints????
As a military vet I have to say I don't understand the reasoning behind this for the driver's license. There is no reason to put veteran status on the DL as it has nothing to do with driving.
It's a Driver's License. It is not a "this is my life history" license.

If I remember correctly, this is optional, even if you are a Veteran (thank you for your services men and women). You would have to provide your service record, so I don't think this is an opt out, but rather an opt in.
Maybe it is so you vets can get out of tickets easier, without having to be so embarassingly obvious and trying to "inadvertently" have your military ID visible when you hand over your DL to the cop. 
I am also of the mind that as long as we have to have government issued permission slips to drive, that's all they should be and they shouldn't try to make them some sort of all-purpose universal ID. Same deal with Social Security... that program was a horrible idea in the first place, but as long as we have it, the SSN's should be used purely for that program's own internal uses and not as some sort of universal serial number for citizens.
