The energy sector is no more important to the economy than the healthcare sector, or education, or defense or.....

If you happen to live in that particular forest though, those are the biggest trees in the world.

some of you are crying about the inevitable. Show me one person in the patch that hasn't seen this coming for a long time. Show me one person that didn't know about the severe boom and bust nature of the oilfield...whether they were on top of the hole or not.

A ton of people are losing jobs and that sucks...but they will find other work if they want to.

The economy is taking a hit and that sucks...but it will recover.

the sky is not falling. The sun will continue to shine.

Get out of here with reasonable thought.

Serriously people, look at why OPEC is at the root of this! This is NOT in your best interest.

OPEC didn't force energy companies to go out and borrow cheap money to recover more oil.
Capitalistic greed did that.
That's the way it has always worked.
That's the way its supposed to work.

Low oil prices are bad.
High oil prices are bad.
Yes, that is basically the sum of it.

I'm starting to see a connection here.

RIP capitalism
Price control of oil has always existed and without regulation. OPEC and non OPEC companies adjust production in order to control oil prices such that it is both profitable for companies to continue with expanding technologies AND is reasonable enough that consumers will still buy it.

THAT is capitalism...supply and demand.

So are you a socialist or something? Does all this stem from you being insanely jealous of other peoples' wealth? That is typically what I find from those ashholes who like to cry about greed and the 1%ers.

It's not working right now.

I like how everyone thinks of an energy worker as a roughneck with no diploma. LOL.

Over here in eastern OK most of our "oilfield" guys never see the patch. Hint: it's called manufacturing, and the guys getting laid off ain't pullin' no $95K down a year, dumbasses.

All that big stuff on trucks coming from those huge metal buildings at the port, at mid America, in west tulsa, in sand springs, in north tulsa, in Claremore...that **** ain't candy machines.

Also the way folks only see the local impact. Who wants to go on a field trip to Alberta right about now? The exchange rates in our favor.

But yeah, your extra pocket change will cushion the economy. It sure did in the 80s, right?

Look, I'm not even saying it's right, just, or fair. But shut up about how your extra beer money will make up for tens of thousands of layoffs and multi-million dollar businesses slowing down to a hibernation state. Oil slumps affect the entire economy severely.

I'm so far left of most of you I can barely see you from here, the difference is I live in reality. Enjoy your extra six-pack.

Again, nothing will happen to the rich oil guys. They will make money from this slump. If you think this is a striking blow to the worst souls in the business, you're an idiot. A bunch of guys making $18 an hour will be cut, the economy will slow, and top oil brass will bide their time. Rich men almost always continue to get richer.
