Old tradition that is no more:

Saturday night “visiting” between families. I used to love going to other peoples houses to “visit” on Saturday evenings.

Get to see other kids rooms, play in other peoples back yards, meet new kids, eat differently cooked food.

No more it seems.
so true. think block parties and all the good ways of life are virtually gone.

Regarding the OP question and truckers. I just think most truckers these days are a-holes. They don't give to phucks about private vehicles on the hwys. I drive approx 250 each day for work commute on Hwy 75/40/69 and the truckers are terrible. Always driving with their highbeams on. pulling out into the fast lane to pass another semi when you are coming up on them in the fast lane and cutting you off something fierce. Then they take three miles to finally make the pass of the slower truck. They really have no regard for non-semis on the road.

Maybe that is why they won't honk for kids on the road.

Years ago when we had the ice storm in N.E. Oklahoma, most of my family was without power for several days. We were on Indian Electric coop, and thanks to them taking care of business, we were only without power a couple of times, for a few hours. My eldery dad and all my grand kids stayed with us. One night we lost the power , but had a fire going, and kerosene lanterns for some light. So we all just set around and talked, to each other, told stories, this was before CELL PHONES! My grand kids are all grown now but still talk about how much they enjoyed that experience! SIMPLE PLEASURES!
