Getting ready to start back on building a BOB. It never really got far from planning stage actually.

Have good idea on the types of things i want/need (not specific brand or anything) but no idea where to get them. Is there a one stop shop online that has good deals on stuff of this sort? I saw a guy selling stuff at chickasha super daves or is there local places that lots of this can be found besides the standard sporting good stores like academy?

I guess it depends on what your looking for. Academy, walgreens, gunshows, flea markets, garage sales, antique shops.

Thats half the fun, shoppin, searchin, scavaging.

not wanting to break the bank but also not looking to cheap out. I am a firm believer in quality products but also in saving money lol.

Been in summit a few times and they have some good stuff. along with the backwoods. Isn't there a camping/outdoors outlet in Tulsa for coleman?

Yes Anytime i pop into an antique store or junk store i keep an eye out for hunting fishing and camping stuff. One of the last times got a nice vintage oiled canvas bird hunting jacket and a GI plastic canteen, cover and belt...all for under 10 bucks

Then don’t expect to get equipped at places like Walmart or Academy. I’ve never been to Summit, so I can’t speak about them, but Backwoods is a decent local store. Most of my stuff is bought via cyber shopping based on lots of research and a good deal of personal needs assessment. Most stuff I’ve been very satisfied with, but some other things not so much so they were sent on down the road.

I tend to look for products that are meant for mountaineering or expeditions and for the high quality backpacking market. Another category I look in for items that I feel need to have greater durability is companies that manufacture military gear upgrades, not military surplus.

I try to balance my available dollars by creating an overlapping system that fulfills my basic needs given whatever the situation. By doing it that way if one layer fails the next is available to pick up the short fall. In other words, whether it is my get home bag, or BOB, or my home, everything overlaps to fulfill the same basic functions.

Those needs are:
1. Security
2. Shelter
3. Water
4. Food

Just a few of the places I have purchased from:

http://www.moontrail.com/home.php
http://www.altrec.com/
http://www.mountaingear.com/webstore/
http://www.rei.com/

This is just a sample of the places I’ve bought from in recent years, but if you’re looking for something specific, please ask.

You can buy food for long term storage from the mormon food pantry in OKC they have great stuff at great prices and it is already packed with oxygen absorbers for long life

For outdoor gear, I usually look at altrec.com. If you create a login with them and leave a review on one item, they will email you a 20% off coupon for your next purchase.
