+1 vote for metric.

I hate fractional measurements. Only an insane person would prefer "nineteen sixty-fourths" instead of "7.54 millimeters".

Some CAD programs will automatically convert it for you. Ours were always set to SAE but if we were trying to replicate something off of a metric drawing, you could just type the measurement with the designator and it would convert. 11.5 would be 11.5 inches, but if you input 292.1mm it would convert to 11.5in

Actually a 2x4 "stud" is not eight feet long.

We know that, but most don't. 92 5/8". To many, any 2x4 is a stud.
