also note if you are fishing in the OKC metro area they try to stick you with that "close to home" pass or whatever they call it. it's another like $10 fee and just another way to play "gotcha!". never once been asked for it, but i don't fish out there all the regularly where it would be easy for *ALL THOSE COPS AT LAKE HEFNER* (ya ever notice.....just how many hang out at the lake watching the joggers all day?) to catch you.

that being said, there are all sorts of ponds on what appears to be company land, like around the UPS area on Portland near the river, and i see hobos dropping a line in those waters all the time.

if the HOBOS and ILLEGALS can fish there, I think i can fish there.

if the cops want to do something; then stop everyone else. seems to me like no one cares.
You just tell them you’re a sovereign citizen.

Awesome, thank you very much for the reply and yeah that $10 extra BS confused me I need a state fishing license, a city fishing license AND the $10 extra to fish the close to home ones? so weird. I fished a few of those places down in norman, never got asked by F&G for my close to home thing only my normal state fishing license. I love being nickel and dimed to death.

I have to keep telling myself and remember that we are too far east for all the public/BLM land we enjoy in more western states.
and what's even more sad about that is everything used to be "federal" land that was accessible to all until the land run. wherein most people today that have inherited family land are likely still claiming.

it's absurd.

yeah they pull the same thing for kayaks and canoes. state doesn't require human powered water craft to be tagged, but OKC does. you don't have to actually register it with the state (since like....i don't think you even can), but you just get an OKC pass essentially. not sure if stand up paddleboards require it as well, but as many as those as i see going down thru stinchcomb from overholser i would imagine the city wants to make SOMETHING on them.

Find out what's private and what's public. Most neighborhoods have private property ponds, and require permission from the owner(s).
If it's an Oklahoma or Corps of Engineers built reservoir, pond, dam, etc, it is 100% public. If it's on private property, the landowner MUST provide access to it via road, walking path, etc. Most people don't know this but can easily find out from Fish and Game or the CoE, OR the hard way when said fisherman sues for access and there ain't sh*t the landowner can do. I know this from experience.

there used to be an old asian guy that fished in the north end of the duck pond in norman. he would go all the way down to the bridge over by Bishop's Landing apartments (rip). without a doubt likely the most "illegal" fishing you could do, but he did this at least once a week and absolutely no one did anything about it. he had a VERY elaborate set up too. not like he was doing it stealth lol.

i think most people assume the penalty for "breaking the law" is death. that's not going to happen unless the cops murder you.

I assure you, after the like 20th call, the cops aren't going to care anymore.

So i just moved here a few months ago, been fishing a lot but without a boat I am stuck with shore fishing. Shore fishing these huge lakes here is not easy. I noticed a lot of ponds and smaller lakes are in communities that say "fishing for residents only" BUT the state the I just moved from had signs like that to discourage people from fishing it but the actual law as long as I am not on one of the homeowners property(an open side of the lake with no homes by it) then its basically public no matter what the owners of the development or homeowners in the area think or want, I cant find any Oklahoma laws on it clarification wise. When I look it up online most of them say "Oklahoma lake or resevoir #747732" or whatever number that one is, implying its public just surrounded by a housing development. Any clarification on this? Just because there is a sign up saying "fishing residents only" doesn't mean you own it and some HOA/people are control freaks but I would like clarification as I cant find any laws on this.

Obviously I am not going to walk through someones backyard or anything but there are some open sides to lakes that are barren of people but "fishing residents only" but no gates or fences.
https://www.wildlifedepartment.com/lands-and-minerals/olap/mapsyou might find a fishing spot near you

I wonder if this is true. Years ago, my wife and I were paddling an inflatable kayak when a LEO told us to get it off the water because it had no registration. We have a great white water canoe that we registered and numbered in 1985. It has been in storage since then. I've lost the title, but have a copy
