Laminated casings? Please explain.

He means lacquered...like the Russian Wolf/Tula/Brown Bear ammunition. It's steel cased ammunition that is coated it a lacquer or polymer type material to keep the cartridge from rusting.

If a gun is ammo sensitive (which unusually chambered AR patterned rifle typically are), it is not usually a good choice.

Generally speaking these types of rifles will not be as reliable as the more typical direct impingement 5.56/.223 counterparts...not that 95% of their owners shoot them enough to notice the difference.

He might mean laquered casings. Steel cased ammo is laquered to prevent rusting. In an impingement type action such as a gas operated AR the Bolt Carrier Group heats up and can melt the laquer causing it to gum up the works.

Edit: Ha, mmchambers06 beat me to it

Currently = Century Bulgarian AK-74 $350-$400
5.45 x 39, 1080 round case for $150
Magazines $12-$20 a piece

Classically= Entry level AKM style rifle $400-$500
7.62 x 39, ammo prices all over the place
Magazines $10-$20 a piece

Domestically=Entry level AR-15 style rifle $650-$800
.223, generally $250-$400 per 1000.
Good domestic magazines $15-$25 a piece

Those are the most common magazine fed military carbines.
