I am not up for renewal until 2017 but when it is due should I submit my renewal a couple of months early before it expires? I don't want to have to go without one. And is all you have to do is fill out a new app and send new pictures and pay?

Renewal instructions are on OSBI's site, here: https://www.ok.gov/osbi/Handgun_Licensing/How_to_renew_your_license..html
From the instructions: Licenses may be renewed any time within 90 days prior to the expiration.

Also, from the OSBI FAQ section, there is a 90 day grace period that begins on the date of expiration, meaning, your license will remain valid for up to 90 days past expiration if you are in the renewal process: http://www.ok.gov/osbi/Handgun_Licensing/Frequently_Asked_Questions/index.html#Q42

UPDATE: OSBI charged my card this morning (4/15/2015). So that's 9 days from fingerprinting at the Sheriff's office. Will update again when OSBI completes processing.

License was in the mail today, exactly 21 days from the date I had my fingerprints done. That was WAY faster than I imagined. My guess is they must be giving priority to new licenses, and maybe even to new 10-year licenses (more revenue). But that's just a guess. Carry on. :-)

Osbi says they received mine 3/25 snail mail. By the numbers above I should almost be expecting it soon. Email said though they are taking 45-60 days to process.

Kinda hope I get it before vacation I'm taking in May

My license expired 2.5 years ago. I went online and applied for renewal, paid via internet and uploaded my passport photo on the evening of April 15th. I received my license in the mail on April 30th. That's eleven business days. Not too shabby!
