I think it's convenient and opportunistic for the D's to label R's as racist over immigration policy while at the same time offering no real solution to the problem. The powers in the D party would love to use these blanket statements about R's to further their political agenda and to attempt to pad their rolls.

Speaking as a registered R, I believe that our immigration system is completely broken and needs serious reform. I am for immigration, but I want the people coming here to be legitimate citizens who have gone through the background check, immunizations, oath of citizenship, and pay taxes and contribute to the system and our society. The current system is overwhelmed and antiquated.

Both parties, well let's say all parties, more than likely have prejudiced individuals. Is either main party overtly or covertly racist? No.
They do have different approaches to "empowering" minorities and women.

Terry,

Apples to oranges. We are discussing immigration, not abortion. "Murdered" could be considered hyperbole by someone who is pro-choice. I also would submit that the abortion question, unlike immigration, is one that will NEVER be resolve\d.

I thought the topic was racism, not immigration. I would submit that "racism" could be considered hyperbole by those who are against illegal immigration. In all these threads you and those you argue with are playing a no-win game, J.B. You're all using arguments that are based mostly on your own point of views and your own priorities. You complain about the absolutism in other people's threads and then preach absolutism when it's a point you agree with. You're an intelligent man, J.B., these petty partisan talking-points should be beneath you.

I thought it was resolved at least legally.

But I'm trying to warn you all about the splinters in your eyes while I navigate the beam in my own.

I disagree. As the Democrats have become a more inclusive party, the GOP has become somewhat more exclusive.

Have the Democrats become more inclusive? Or have they simply become more subtle in how they exploit those they "include"? Are the programs they support for the poor and minorities more likely to empower them, or instill a dependency? In other words, do they give fish or teach fishing?
