Love my Versamax and my son loves his Vinci, I like it also.

Best bang for the buck is the Mossberg 930 they are new under $500 and made in the USA. Very solid shotguns I love mine and it shots 2 3/4 and 3 inch without a hitch. My best friend has at least 40,000 rounds though his and I just got one it's nice.

remington 11-87, used would be very affordable if money is an issue.

They made an 1100 magnum that shoots 3". I would second the 1187.

The Versamax,SX3 and the extrema are all $1000 plus. If he likes browning, the browning silver is a good gun also.

Don't overlook the Benelli M-2 or the Super Black Eagle2. Amazing shotguns with very low felt recoil with heavy loads. Worth every penny imho.

Low recoil with Benelli inertia driven guns? Uh....no. Ultra reliable, yes. But the recoil on them is rough compared to other autoloaders on the market.

+1 - Don't have one but have seen them around somewhat regularly.
