Screw that sham of a "White House Petition" process. It's a PR stunt with no statutory or Constitutional authority.

If you signed this "petition" before you even contacted your Senators and Representative, you've got it backwards…..

What's wrong with doing it all? :anyone:

Sure, do it all…but do the important part first is all I'm saying. How many ran off to sign this petition yet don't even know who their elected reps are? You know as well as I do, that a lot did.

Bassin, here is what I sent. Actually wording isn't important, nor does length. The goal is to get a tick mark in the "against the ban" column when the staffer who screens the emails does his tally. If we can generate some heat from Congress…BATFE might, I repeat might, back off….not they've ever shown much concern over Congress. At least it's part of the process, unlike that petition crap.

Good Morning Sir.

Thank you for your service to our nation and the Great State of Oklahoma.

I'm writing to you to bring to your attention the BATFE's recent proposal to ban the manufacture and import of M855 "green tip" rifle rounds using the SS109 projectile.

This particular round has been available to the public for many years. Surplus M855 constitutes a large portion of the 5.56mm/.223 civilian ammunition market and it does not meet the statutory definition of "Armor Piercing" ammunition. The BATFE is attempting to a) redefine it as AP and b) strip it of it's previous Sporting Use exemption under the guise of "officer safety" while failing to highlight any observed increase in risk to officer safety in the years since the round has been available to the public.

The ammunition market is already tight. Finding casual plinking and training ammunition is hard enough already. This latest proposal is perceived by many of us in the shooting community as an end-around method of gun control, and an abuse of BATFE's statutory authority.

Any time and attention you could pay to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Not a thing Glocktogo.

Hey, it sure is not going to hurt signing the petition. There are always those that know better than the rest of us. Chalk it up and do what you can do, sign the petition and write your representatives.

Just doing something is better than nothing and sitting back and saying it is all a waste of time.

I'm saying that signing the petition is just about the same as doing nothing. If you sign the petition, but don't contact your reps, you are pissing in the wind and in that case I do know "better than the rest of us". Contact your reps.

I'll say it again. F4ck that stupid petition. It's a creation of the Obama administration. Do you really think giving credence to that artificiality will serve to put even one iota of pressure on the BATFE to reconsider their decision? If anything, it'll show them they are hitting us where it hurts and they'll redouble their efforts.

If you did both, great. If you do even more, great. I'm addressing those who merely think signing that petition is "doing something".
