All olives taste like salted ink and hooker spit. Kalamata being the worst offender.

Fresh Tamales are a thing of beauty.

Traditional/modern thanksgiving food can kick rocks. Ham and mashed potatoes are the only foods I’d likely eat on any other day of the year. The original feast is much more appealing.

Who chose the traditional menu? Do people REALLY like all that stuff?

I don't like turkey
I don't like stuffing
I don't like sweet potato/yams
I don't like cranberry stuff
I don't like pumpkin pie

For real, how did THAT become "tradition".

Gimme a steak and mashed potatoes...I'm good.
I'm right there with you. I've never liked Thanksgiving for a couple reasons. 1st is the food that is traditionally served. Very little of it do I enjoy.

2nd is the gathering of people. I'm not a fan of all of those people in my house. I'm not completely against people being there, but it's the sheer number of them. I'm pretty sure I top out at 6 people comfortably. Currently there are going to be 12 in my house this year. I'm not looking forward it.

As for the food, about 25 years ago I got tired of not enjoying the food and I started my own tradition. I make a lasagna every year now for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I also make a cheesecake of various flavors, although I have started going semi traditional by making a pumpkin cheesecake. I hate pumpkin pie, but I love me some pumpkin cheesecake.

I used to make more for the dinners, but since my surgery I eat very little food, so I just leave it at those 2 and make stuff that other people will like as well.

I can almost bear these dinners now, if only I could cut the number of people at them.

Oh god it was Human wasn’t it.

Here is one article on what was on that very first Thanksgiving meal.

Professor Shares History of the First Thanksgiving

The historical foods:

"But according to the two only remaining historical records of the first Thanksgiving menu, that meal consisted of freshly killed deer, assorted wildfowl, cod, bass, and flint, and a native variety of corn harvested by the Native Americans, which was eaten as corn bread and porridge."

My brother in law and his side of the family make ribs and brisket.

I like good stuffing. Mashed potatoes and gravy. I like real cranberry sauce but my family likes the canned crap.

I’m so hungry by the time lunch is served at 2-2:30 that I’d eat about anything. Almost anything…. My mil puts cut up boiled eggs in everything, mashed potatoes, dressing, even the gravy. I starve when we go there. I hate boiled eggs, they make me puke I hate the taste so much. Makes for a lovely time.

I would rather have steak or prime rib over turkey and ham.
