If I buy a gun from private sell i do make a simple bill of sell. I have the gun info on it and the person's name and sig. I do check ID just to make sure their name is really John Smith but thats it. It makes me sleep better at night and thats all that matters.

I'm contemplating getting an FFL, but I'd still like the ability to sell all my guns if things go tits up.

I think that it depends on whether the gun is used or not. There is some law about having a new gun for a year before they can sell new without paperwork. I don't have enough info. to elaborate any farther and may not have all of my facts straight.

I'll bump this up because I'm curious myself.
