Remember back in the 60's or 70's when a brandy sourdough fruit mix on the counter to put on ice cream was the vogue?
Parents had a big jar with a lid on the kitchen counter with a starter they got from someone and using a schedule, you added more fruits to make a mix for ice cream? Man, that stuff was awesome.

Never had nor heard of it. Sounds rather interesting, though! I'm not much of a fruitnic, but it might be worth trying.

My Mom used a similar fermented fruit starter to make "friendship" cakes. The idea was to give the starter to your friends so they could bake their own.

It was actually pretty good cake, but I'm sure most of the alcohol cooked off in the oven.
