Tesla's are pretty darn cool. Depending on which "apps" you purchase they can do some darn cool things! For an around town car they would be nice, but if you were to grab a jug of java and head on out for a 12-16 hour road trip.....it's gonna be a 16-24 hour road trip

Heard a guy on the radio today that said his Tesla with the extended range battery could make 360 miles before a recharge. 4-5 hours for a recharge so your numbers match.
His model ran $105,000. Ol' mayor pete, our new transportation secretary said the answer to high fuel prices was to just go out and buy an EV. Don't think many road warriors can afford to pay that much for a sedan.
Edit: wait times for a tesla and some other EV's is up to a year, so how is mayor petes solution going to work?

Buy a Tesla, then your every move is tracked. The car remotely talks to Tesla when it identifies issues. Former boss had one, Testa Corp called informing him his A/C compressor was failing, they scheduled a service call. Mechanic fixed the car in the parking lot.
Toss the car and buy a new battery / car
