No it's not just you. I agree with you completely except there are some fine looking shotguns out these days. I've seen a few new Franchi, Berretta and Browning O/U's that are fine looking specimens. Some SxS's too. The new Henry Goldenboy that I have reminds me of guns from the earlier generations. These are the only ones that come to mind that even resemble an early Colt Python, a FN built Browning shotgun or an old English double. I could include some of the S&W Classic series revolvers too. While some of them are drop dead gorgeous from the right side, when you see the left side with that frigging zit on it, it just kind of makes you wanna puke.

But yes, the days of fine line SHARP, CLEAR and CRISP fine line checkering, highly polished deep gloss bluing and hand engraving as standard items are long gone I think. Except for the high end customs.
