Justin, heart problems like this run in my family and several family members have had surgery to bypass blockages. A lot of them were much older than your dad when they had this surgery. All of them went without a hitch and every single family member, to a T, said they felt like a kid again. Recoveries were amazingly quick. I pray the same is so with your dad. BB

I had my bypass surgery Nov 30th 2011 at age 56. I was only in the hospital 3 1/2 days. I doubt his risks are very high for someone his age. He is going to be sore as hell for 4 weeks then just sore for 4 more weeks. After 8 weeks he will be about 75-80 percent back to normal. Have him take all the pain meds they will give him. Don't let him do anything but rest and walk for the first 4 weeks and keep the incision clean to avoid infection. My 6 month aniversary was about 3 weeks ago and I can do pretty much everything I was doing before the surgery. The only thing that still hurts a little is if I sneeze.

Thanks for the prayers everyone, the surgery went very well. It was not as bad as the Doctor thought it was going to be. Dad's in recovery now, he will have to stay in the hospital for 3-4 more day's but it looks like everything will be fine..
