Hey Brother,

I'm for you 100%!! Don't let anyone talk you into buying mamby-pamby city slicker, chickens!!!

What you need are REAL.....I said...REAL chickens. Let me throw a few breeds that I have had in the past.

Muff
Sweater
Round Head
Regular Grey
Mclean Hatch
Kelso
Last but not least....Red Jungle Fowl...straight from the Phillipines.

Trust me if there is a stray dog, cat, bothersome birds, unwanted family or guests, pesky little kids, or anyone who has what they may think are badazz chickens.
These bloodlines will set the record straight!!!

You can make "unique" money with these birds and their eggs. Plus, your kids can show them in 4H or FFA....just keep any other bird or fowl...at least 20' away, and you're good.

**Just remember...if ANYONE asks about these birds...they're "Show Fowl".

Just a little early morning humor....have fun with your urban adventure.

Don't get caught up with crusty old gamers like me!!!!

Is anyone familiar with the polutry regulations in Moore? I've manged to keep small pens of Quail and Pheasant for training my bird dogs, but they are gone as soon as they suffer a training accident. At one time I was going to keep a single milk goat, put a dog collar on her and tell me neighbors it was just an ugly bird dog.

I'd like to do this someday...but my HOA covenants/bylaws prohibit it.

Long as you love me you will have eggs ... :lookaroun Good Lord, I am so ready to move out to the country ... I HATE living in town ... :(

CardsFan ... that's a very nice pen you have going there! You didn't mention it but you also might add a 1 1/2 inch dowel somewhere for them to roost on. I know a lot of folks don't bother but your chicks will be happier if they have the choice.

Cohiba, I use to raise some of the same breeds..Allen Round Heads, Grays, and yellow legged Hatch..While we did enjoy the eggs, mine were mostly for entertainment purposes only.......

Post up some more pics of the chicken tractor.... My daughter has been bugging me for chickens since we moved out to the country. She's also already picked out names for her "flock". What she dosnt understand is I really dont know crap about building anything. I'm afraid she'll be ticked when the coop collapes and all her chickens are crushed---

Here's two more hours work, including teaching the guy at Home Depot how to measure and cut 4x8 plywood on their giant saw :D

I'm not really working from any plans. I found some designs I liked, and just build a 2x4 base, and starting raising the A frame from there. After getting the wire cloth and 3 4x8 sheets today, I am finally out money on the thing. Around 150 bucks so far. I need about 40 dozen farm fresh eggs (3.75 per dozen at the farmers' market) to pay for my work so far. Then I am in the black :)

Hey Cards,

Goodlooking set up!!! Ever thought about Bantams?? Remember...you need a rooster for those laying hens....but after a while that rooster will crow and the neighbors will complain!!!

Cheap chicken scrtach/food.....grit....and enough wire to keep out the varmits.

Keep us posted on the progress!!
