You sound a little biased.

And? Does that mean my stance isn't valid?

Honestly, did we pick him to represent the Indian tribes or the state of Oklahoma?

Are you serious? Who do you think make up a huge chunk of the tribal populations in the state? Citizens of the state who also happen to be tribal members.

My great grandparents on my dad’s side, paternal and maternal, were half Comanche in SW OK. As the times changed, they wanted nothing to do with the Indians and aligned more with the “white man’s” work ethic and gumption. Never went on the ‘roles’. The grandparents left in the late 40’s and went all around the world with the USAF, then settled in Texas. My wife and I wanted out of Texas in 2009, so we moved back to Oklahoma.

Wait. Is this a "lazy indian" stance? Not really sure what this has to do with anything in this thread . . . your great grandparents were ashamed of being indians. That's not new. Many people of that same generation were beaten into submission and thinking they were subhuman if they were indians.

I say the governor should try to represent all people.

He's pretty doing a horrible job of that right now in my opinion.

The Supreme Court has really stepped off in it. I think soon we may wish hunting & fishing compacts were the only thing affected. McGirt has really opened up a bunch of cans of big worms that we really haven’t seen fully impact the state yet. It could get a lot worse before it gets better, unfortunately. I have to think that the educated men and women on the bench had to have foreseen at least some of these problems.

Regardless, Stitt being petty is becoming one of those major problems that isn't doing anyone in the State any good.

IMHO McGirt was McWrong, but I'm of the mindset that if you live on dirt from the Atlantic to the Pacific in USA territory that you're an American and should identify as such. At this point we're all "Native American" unless you hopped a boat yourself. Get over it and join or go make your own place and defend it.

Also, it's not Racist, stop using that word. At the most you'd be bigoted. Indian isn't a race, no matter how much they redefine the lines. Your races are Caucasoid, Mongoloid, and Negroid. Anything else is just mixing the three.

I'm not saying Stitt is being racist, but I'm pretty sure there are 5 categories of race according to www.census.gov

American Indian or Alaska Native
Asian
Black or African American
Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander
White

Agreed. According to anthropologist, Native Americans are genetically East-Eurasian (related to Siberians, East Asians and Southeast Asians). They are of the “Mongoloid race”. This might explain why so many native Americans appear with Asian like eyes and darker skin.

Are Native American's a "Race?"

That same census estimates the American Indian population of Oklahoma at 9.4% of the total population. I'd say the political clout the tribes wield within Oklahoma is pretty strong, considering the numbers.

You believe the compacts with the tribes were detrimental to the best interests of the State? How? Why?
No, not detrimental. I believe the funding would have benefited the ODWC, and I would like to see them get it. If your native American, all you need to legally hunt and fish within the "Nation" is your tribal membership card, along with another form of ID to verify who you are. You must also still follow all tribal, state and federal laws. I believe the compact mostly served people like me who live way outside the nation boundaries and desired only to hunt/fish locally. I got my free license and never hunted, may have fished once in the past three years. Just too busy with work and life. But, the ODWC got their fees for my licenses even though it was at a reduced rate and my lack of activity in the field had no impact on ODWC which offsets that reduced fee. I would not have bought a license over the past three years otherwise, so the ODWC still benefited. I have no problem with buying my licenses I just wouldn't have until I had an opportunity to participate, which in my case would be slim. I suspect I'm not the only tribal member who requested a license, tossed in a tackle box and never gave it another look or use. That scenario is no detriment to the state or ODWC as far as I can see, but I'm not above being proved wrong.

I don't live within the traditional Cherokee Nation boundary and don't hunt up that way either.

You're definitely not alone in getting the tribal license and likely rarely using it, but it was still funding that ODWC received whether you did your not.

And Stitt does everything he can to pick away at that "clout" . . . and start fights where none need to happen. I wish he'd do a better job of working with them instead of against them.

I believe his approach to dealing with the tribes will likely cost him votes if he runs for reelection. He's not playing the smart game, so to speak.

Lets do some quick math here. The state made $38,000,000.00 from the tribes on discounted licenses; $72.00 license package for $2.00.
Now right off the bat I am getting "fell off the back of the truck" vibe.

$38M/$2 per license; so roughly 19,000,000 tribal licenses were paid for and issued. I am assuming that has been sense conception. Now lets remove the sweetheart deal.

19,000,000 licenses at the regular rate of $72.00 comes to 1,368,000,000.00 now to be fair lets take out that $38M and we come to...

1 BILLION, 330 Million dollars and no cents in lost profits that would otherwise go to wildlife conservation in our state.

Your brain cells would have to be racist against intelligence to not see why Stitt has made this decision.
