Your not paranoid. That is simply the way it is.
He is exactly right. I couldn't tell you the number of times I've chased meth heads through Walmart or Target out of habit or instinct. Being a cop is just different and most folks don't understand that. I work in a small town and live in town, my mistake, I've had nails in my front yard, broken beer bottles in my lawn, and my house spray painted and that is not counting the people that just out right refuse to acknowledge that I am alive let alone talk to me.
Granted the town I work in is tiny compered to Norman (or pretty much anywhere) and it maybe different there, but be ready for your life to completely different for the rest of your life. (You will either be a cop or Ex-cop forever) With all that said I wouldn't give up police work for $100,000/year gig, but that's just my opinion. Take it and a $1 and you might be able to get a cup of coffee.
Id say keep strong with what you will enjoy most, whether it be airline or you would enjoy law enforcement. it is worth waiting 5 years for a good salary if you will be spending the rest of your life doing it.
