From what I've read they made the 9x18 specifically so foreigners couldn't use the regular 9mm ammo in the Maks.

I to have a Makarov, and its one of my go to pistol's, usually sitting in a drawer close by loaded with Hornady Flex-tip ammo. Like someone else said the Glock of the Combloc even though its not plastic. I've owned mine for over 20yrs now, and has fired several thousand rounds with never a failure of any type. She even gets put into carry rotation. Since owning her I probably have enough spare parts to build a second one an have ten spare magazines. She would be one of the last guns for me to ever give up.
