Scanning my drivers license??

I went to fill the car up before work and grabbed some ice cold beverages and she said we have to see your id now I said ok I looked back at my billfold and she scanned the barcode on the back of my license kinda ticked me off has anyone else had this happen?

It is not uncommon if you are buying alcohol.

Some companies don't care how old you are. The employee's will get in trouble if they don't card you. It's on video so they can't get away from it. Same thing for ammo when I was at Cabela's.

Every time I buy beer, my license gets scanned.

A couple of reasons for it I can think of. It keeps clerks from selling beer to their underage buddies and some clerks might not be able to tell how old you are from your DOB. When I worked in an auto parts store years back we couldn't sell freon without seeing their certification card and putting the number in the computer. The registers they have now might not ring it up without that card scan.

I don’t mind them looking at my license to verify age or identity, but I don’t want it scanned, copied or photographed. I’ve walked out on sales when they try to do that.

Its a way for the employer to verify that the employee is following that companies procedures. Also a CYA in the event a complaint is made that the store sold alcohol to a underage person.

Lets the state and insurance companies know your an alcoholic. Just like scanning when you buy cigarettes.
When you go to buy insurance and they ask if you drink or smoke.
Big brother is gearing up.
