My first duty assignment as a Scope Dope. SAGE system
The computer system took up the entire 2nd floor of the building (think medium size wal-mart).
All vacuum tubes built it the late 50's.
Fast forward to 1983 when they moved HQ to Tyndall AFB and the "new" system was the size of a Coke vending machine. They had 2 of them. A and B side.

Here’s a blast from the 80s and 90s:teehee::nutkick::laugh6:

12 inch optical disk, that’s one big floppy.

The tape is a 1200 foot reel we used on Telex 6250/53 tape drives. We had 100s, they made IBMs drives. IBM puts their names on many products that’s made for them.

It looks like CDC made IBMs removable disk packs as well. We had a few of the half packs above but most of ours were 300MB.

Rebuilt many, in fact I crashed one I rebuilt that cost the company $20,000. The alignment pack was kept in a parts room and I found out it takes more than a half day to stabilize the temperature on the pack to keep it from a head crash 💥. The heads ride so close to the surface of the disk a smoke particl will cause failure.
