They've historically ran in the 1.5 to 2 months range.
If I remember correctly you have something like a 30 grace period on the tail end. Check to be sure.

They have 60 days to approve or deny the application if the background investigation reveals no records that would preclude you from issuance of a license. In the event that there IS a record (an inconclusive result from the Dept. of Mental Health, for instance) they have 90 days. Here's the rub: You don't know where they are in the investigation, so you really can't bend their arm until 90 days has gone by.

You MAY NOT continue to carry once your license expires. There is NO grace period (Title 21, 1290.5), and you can only apply for renewal within the 90-day expiry window (which you did).

The long and short is this: If you haven't received your license by one week prior to your expiration date, call the Licensing Unit. If they can't tell you anything, then you have bigger issues and should adjust accordingly with your communications to them. The most likely scenario is that they'll try to wrap it up quickly so that you get your new license before the first one expires. If one week isn't enough breathing room for you, call them two weeks out.

Good luck to you.

Sent my renewal in and just got it back; 27 days from me mailing it in to OSBI to getting it back in my mailbox. Not bad.

You MAY NOT continue to carry once your license expires. There is NO grace period (Title 21, 1290.5).

I believe you are mistaken about this (relevant portions between my asterisks):

TITLE 21 § 1290.5 TERM OF LICENSE AND RENEWAL
A. A handgun license when issued shall authorize the person to whom the license is issued to carry a loaded or unloaded handgun, concealed or unconcealed, as authorized by the provisions of the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act, and any future modifications thereto. The license shall be valid in this state for a period of five (5) or ten (10) years, unless subsequently surrendered, suspended or revoked as provided by law. ***The person shall have no authority to continue to carry a concealed or unconcealed handgun in this state pursuant to the Oklahoma Self-Defense Act when a license is expired*** or when a license has been voluntarily surrendered or suspended or revoked for any reason.
B. A license may be renewed any time within ninety (90) days prior to the expiration date as provided in this subsection. The Bureau shall send a renewal application to each eligible licensee with a return address requested. ***There shall be a thirty-day grace period on license renewals beginning on the date of expiration, thereafter the license is considered expired.*** However, any applicant shall have three (3) years from the expiration of the license to comply with the renewal requirements of this section.

On topic, my renewal took a little over a month.

From the OSBI website just now: The grace period is now 90 days.

Please Note: Effective November 1, 2014, there will be a 90-day grace period on license renewals.

Licenses may be renewed any time within 90 days prior to the expiration.

Expiration notification will be sent to the mailing address provided.
(If your mailing address changes during your license term, please notify OSBI within 30 days.)

There is a 30-day grace period on license renewals; after 30 days, the license is considered expired
and the applicant may no longer legally carry a concealed or unconcealed handgun.
