I worked overseas for several years and between that, flying while in the Army and vacations I've got more than my fair share of being in a airplane.......from my very first time up at age 17 I never cared for flying but considered it a necessary evil.

On my last fishing trip to Great Slave Lake in the NWT back in about 95' or so the float plane I was in went down, I took that as 'a sign' and swore right then that I'd never board another plane of any type for any reason......if I can't get there by road or rail I ain't going, period.

Anyway, the wife just saw a deal on the morning news that said that by Oct. 2020 in order to fly / board a plane in the U.S. you've got to have what is called a "Real ID" which is some sort of ID card with a star in the upper corner and she's wanting us to get one......I reminded her that even if I had tote sack full of "Real ID'S" there ain't enough linebackers in the NFL to physically put me on a 'silver bird'. :)

For those that do fly have you gone through the process to get a "Real ID" ?

I used to worry about a bomb being on an airplane, so I wouldn't fly. I finally called an airline and asked what the odds were of a bomb being on any given airplane. They said about 50,000 to one.

I still didn't like those odds. So I called them back and asked what the odds were of TWO bombs being on the same plane. They said, oh gosh... probably more than 10,000,000 to one.

I liked those odds much better. So now I fly everywhere I go. But I always take one bomb with me.

I have both a PIV and CAC card so those count as "real IDs" . . . my wife and youngest have their passports.

I guess I need to just cave and get my passport at some point . . .

What is the complaint from the state on this? Are they putting it off until the fed grants the monies to pay for it? Are they worried it's some sort of national ID? Why is it required to prove your identity to fly, but not required to vote?
I think it's more of a political thing. They don't want to "have big brother" watching over their flock. It's already in a majority of states and the fact is a lot of people have no reason to spend the time/money getting a passport, so just do it already Oklahoma...you are going to have to do it sooner or later.

I do find it odd that they are dragging their feet on this but are pushing the "ID on your phone" concept pretty hard.
