Funny how Marijuana is being promoted, but long time painkillers like Loritab is being demonized by our gov't and the very profession that prescribed the heck out of it (much pressure from the DEA?)
I highly recommend Empire of Pain if you want to take a deep dive into the history of the opioid crisis and the family that developed the drugs.

It covers a lot about how we got to this point, including a lot of the internal practices and marketing tactics used during the drug boom. It starts slow but eventually spends a lot of time on how the drugs development relates to the current problems with fentanyl and highly regulated access to opioids now.

I may very well do that. I have no issues with chronic pain fortunately.

I would certainly agree we have likely over corrected regarding the issue, but it's also hard to say something didn't need to be done regarding the epidemic. And i think that, after reading the book (which actually is very good), it's easier to understand why states are going after the family involved and the crackdown (which frankly, everything would look like a crackdown after the lack nature of the drugs distribution relative to it's potency for all those years)

I don’t use drugs like MJ or other “illegal” scheduled drugs, but I DO support people’s Right to freedom to put in their body what they feel is good for them. Now, there’s not freedom for consequences for actions that occurred or may occur under such circumstances, but you should have a right to invest something without legal ramifications for just that.
The pharmaceutical and medical community have deep pockets, it's always about the money. Don't worry, after the marijuana industry is done exploding and has their own deep pockets, they will be in line for massive litigation too. Big tobacco was just a big CASH COW. If smoking is so evil and we want to end it why not just pass a law that anyone under 18 today can NEVER legally buy tobacco? We care about the "children" so much, right? It won't ever happen though because they want those taxes! I recall when this was all going down, Bill Clinton's FDA head was being grilled by congress and they asked him why, if tobacco is so EVIL why not just outlaw it? He faked extreme outrage then said it wouldn't be "fair" to all those addicted. Well they would all thank him a few weeks later but it's NEVER been about ANYTHING but the MONEY!!!

MJ has been used since, like forever so I dont see that as anything thats changed since legalization efforts have opened up in some states. In fact maybe even more so then than now. When you tell people they cant do it, most times they do the opposite.
Wokeness is another story and its disgusting.
Cocaine too has been around for centuries, so does that make it ok too?

Say what you will but this push for legal weed is an active effort to further dumb down and numb the populace more . As long as you have a hot pocket and Ren n Stimpy on Cartoon channel you ain't gonna be giving a hoot about what the gov does for you or to you .
Anecdotal but in Washington State after they legalized weed is around the time that things started getting really stupid.
