I'm a pretty young buck and it's gotten ridiculous even in the five years that I've been out of public school. I can remember driving 6 inches of snow to get to school and even more on the way back. Now we cancel because it's too cold

Oklahoma City Schools History of Closing for Snow
In 1967 Oklahoma City Schools closed for the first time

Due to the Finger Plan (Or other plan) High School Students were bused from one side of town to attend schools on the other side of town
(Example NE OKC Students were bused to NW OKC Schools and the reverse)
This was the first time that OKC Schools used buses to transport student to and from school

Pffftttt....

....I'm trying to remember back to the '50's and '60's when I was in school. I do remember that in late March of 1957 the schools in our small town were closed, but that was largely because the blizzard conditions then created snow drifts up to the eaves of the houses. I also remember making money digging out cars parked in front of the people's homes. That was done so that when the county came by to clear the roads that they would catch the cars with their grader blades.

Fast forward to OKC for the late '80's on...

...one can almost be guaranteed that the first vehicle seen in the ditch while driving to work was a 4WD vehicle. Amazing how people buy those thinking that they will go just about anywhere.

4WD will go just about anywhere but these folks forgot to buy the common sense package to go along with the I am cool cause I drive a 4X4 package. Then they go out and buy the 4 inch lift and the big ass tires so they can brag to their neighbors how much the spent on aftermarket parts . And all of this so they can drive down the highway to the office and park it half on the curb to impress themselves!!!

According to News 4's map Shawnee was supposed to be the epicenter for ice today.

I have seen no ice here. I have an elevated wooden porch that is uncovered. Just wet.

We closed our business today around 2pm. It was sleeting really bad and started to snow. The roads were pretty slick until we got home here to Yukon. It was just wet her but now sleet or ice.

Same here in the city, sleet for a couple minutes then a little spat of snow, on the good side we are not hearing about any wrecks or power outages from ice !!
