What I mean is that back then we had leaders who could see the big ball of crap rolling down the pike, and they had the will to do what it took to make sure we were as involved as they could get us. (Marshall convincing FDR to implement the draft was just one example that sprang to mind). Right now, we have a bunch of pork-barrel politicrits who're shoveling slop into their troughs on their way out the door...

Our military wouldn't take a week to obliterate theirs in a plain old shooting war. They know it too, that's what makes war with Russia a very dangerous proposition.
