10mm 1911

I am going to have to play gun snob on this one, normally I am very open minded when it comes to brands of guns, but in the 1911 platform, I prefer higher end pistols. Not necessarily really expensive but a bit more than $575 for a 1911 of any caliber new. I might be missing out on the best thing since single barrel bourbon, but in my mind Macarthur is still in the Philippines and they are still a third world Country. Kind of like Brazil and all their millions of production guns. Not for me. YMMV

I've used a Kimber Stainless Target II for many competitions in L10 division, and have yet to have an issue with that brand/caliber or reliability.
I've got close to 10K rounds through mine, less than yours, but it has never failed to fire or work successfully.
Factory stock with a big mag well.
Everybody I know has nothing but praise for a kimber.

To each his own. Some might consider the RIA the Hi-Point in 10mm, but if you look at the four 1911's above, RIA slightly beat Colt and almost a dead heat with Dan Wesson. And like I said before, if I had the bucks....Nighthawk.

Heck yeah, the Nighthawk is a fine pistol. I have heard some of my shooting buddies praise the RIA guns as a carry piece or a plinker. So I ask them why they don't shoot them in competition and get deer in the headlight looks from them. Even the Colts these guys have are heavily worked by a smith, if you spend $1300 on a Gold Cup and then send it off for a workover, wait the 6 months to a year to get it back, you have a ton of money and time invested into a gun you will probably never recoup. For the high dollar guns there is no reason they should not group 3' at 50 Yards off a ransom rest. We accept less and get it more and more these days. Sorry, off my pedestal now...

On further musing, I would probably have to add the Kimber(3 friends have them in 45ACP) in the 1911 platform and possibly also add the Sig.

My MO would be strictly the plinker or carry piece as I don't shoot competition.

There is no way to recoup money invested in a pistol. If You spend a dime, it will never make a quarter.
1911 smiths make their money by making a 4" group at 25 yds into a group of 1".
Factory mass produced pistols have loose clearances for a reason. To sell guns.

If Colt is putting out the very best stuff, why should it be sent to a smith for improvement?
Not bashing Colt, but if its your best with their history of fine guns. WTF?

It looks like Colt is actually trying in the 1911 domain (kinda'), but they have a ways to go, and they'll have to prove themselves again. It's a shame.

Those gun rag writers can report whatever they want, and it's typically reported in favor of the one that's paying them the most. The RIA is a good deal for the money, but doesn't match the Colt in quality, and it's no where near the DW in quality.

I just ordered a RIA Rock Ultra HC 10mm. It's a double stack. I realize the quality may not be the greatest but double stack 10mm is hard to find. And I thought it would be cool.
