How can you tell me android is not open? When was the last time apple released the source code for IOS?

Google was blocking testimony of an expert witness in a case against Microsoft because Microsoft showed the witness "highly confidential" source code. But I thought it was open??? LOL!
And like this writer contends, being completely open tends toward failure.

Perhaps I misunderstood your argument but by your statements it seemed to indicate you think being open source is an either/or proposition. If that is not what you meant, and you agree that "openness" is a spectrum, then I apologize. If on the other hand I was correct in my analysis of your argument and you believe something is either open or it's not, then you can't agree and say "exactly" when I post a shade of grey.

Fortunately, I think the OP has got what he needed because this has strayed.
