Who chose the traditional menu? Do people REALLY like all that stuff?

I don't like turkey
I don't like stuffing
I don't like sweet potato/yams
I don't like cranberry stuff
I don't like pumpkin pie

For real, how did THAT become "tradition".

Gimme a steak and mashed potatoes...I'm good.
I'm not much of a poultry fan including turkey, but I do love corn bread dressing, cranberry sauce, and all the other traditional Thanksgiving meal! What I really look forward to is my family all getting together at one time! DANG talking about all this food made me hungry!!

There will be smoked turkey Thanksgiving day and dressing! After that, doesn’t matter. Christmas, it’s smoke prime rib or snow crab legs. I do like smoked turkey and dressing.

My family didn’t tolerate children that were picky about what they’d eat. Before I was four, I was used to eating mutton, lamb stew, leg of lamb, fish, fried fish eggs (breakfast), runny eggs (poached, soft boiled or sunny side up), fried or stewed tripe, boston scrod, real hungarian goulash (piles of slow cooked onions and paprika), small shot glasses with beer (sometimes mixed with bloody juice from a rare roast beef, salt and pepper, little buttons of raw connective tissue sliced off clam shells, blue claw crabs in drawn butter. Thanksgiving Dinner: Either Turkey, Fresh Ham or Standing Rib Roast with Rutabaga, Baked Sweet Potato, Creamed Onions, Fresh Steamed Swiss Chard or Home Made Creamed Spinach, Boiled Carrots or Squash, and Sage Seasoned Dressing at Grandma’s. I sure miss my Grandma…..; and my wife of 53 years cooks just like her!

I agree. It sucks. Nothing like trying to pretend that someone’s dry and tasteless turkey was satisfying.
Chili two years ago
Ribeye last year
Girlfriend’s family cooking authentic Mexican food this year. I’m excited about that.
