I wouldn't but if someone wanted to they could give a car to the salvation army and they would give a reciept usually for over the value for tax purposes.
I feel if someone can't afford to buy a cheap car, they can't afford the expense and insurance to own one. We don't need another non insured driver on the streets.
I have "adopted" several vehicles over the years for free. I see a car at the curb or in the driveway with exp tags or clearly inop so I contact the owner and inquire if they need it fixed. Typically, they say they gave up on it and bought something else. Most have been happy to sign the title over and are glad it's gone. I have explained this to several folks who are afoot so they can do their own fishing.
The simple answer is: Yes, I would. Having a vehicle can make the difference in getting a job or keeping a job.
