Not if I'm making it. Real chili doesn't need a filler.
Now having said that,,,
Mom's chili was always "con frijoles".
We were poor and needed that filler that 2busy mentioned.

Us too. My Texan mother always says "You believe Cowboys didn't eat beans in the chuckeagon chili?"
Though, she was adamant that chili doesn't contain tomatoes. She would puree chilis to make the gravy
Gotta have beans in my chili. When someone says they don't want them, I typically puree them as an ingredient. Always get good comments and want to know what the "secret ingredient" is.
Mine does, every time. Typically red kidney, black and sometimes pinto. Non-bean chili, to me, is just hot dog sauce.
The best way to eat chili, to me, is with a healthy (unhealthy, really) amount of cheese and a bunch of Cheez-its.
