Fiber optic splicing is a field that seems to be on the rise.
I sell splicing trailers and am amazed at the increase in sales this year.
Anyone familiar might chime in.

I have a journeymen license. I could get the contractors but I'm affraid I couldn't do the work long term

Isn’t that one of the joys of being the boss and hiring younger guys to work for you? You pay them a little less because you give them value in knowledge and skills, and conveniently you get to do less of the hard manual labor. If it’s what you’re good at man, that’s my vote.

There's a company putting in quite a bit of fiber here in Utah. We had made a trip up around Bryce Canyon and the towns of Tropic and Cannonville a while back and saw several of those trailers. Initially we didn't know what they were for, but we went back up later to take a hike and saw the company trucks hooked to them and knew them to be a company installing fiber. One of the guys was in a ditch and having a bit of trouble getting out because of mud.

My grandson is currently in Georgia on a fiber project with a new office building going up. He has all the work he can handle, anywhere he wants to work.
