I have been studying it pretty hard here lately. Also been studying sat phones.
Both definitely have there place when needed. I’m ready for a baofeng. Hopefully I can get one soon.

I saw one or two setups for crazy cheap in garage sales this summer, really wanted to snag one up. But I knew that if I did the wife would likely kill me for getting into another hobby that requires me to buy things. So here we are, radioless and alive.

I’ve got a General License and use my radios often. I like HF phone communication fine but really like the digital modes (FT8 and JS8Call). Both are weak signal algorithms using a computer sound card to communicate worldwide over radio frequencies. I’ve also played with DMR but am liking Yaesu Fusion / Wires-X more. You can use a hand transceiver to connect with a repeater that is attached to the internet. It literally makes digital voice communication with people all over the world very easy.

Think im going to save up for a 50w i can out in my 4runner and pkay around with.
