Billybob,

I'd argue that at 30 years old, the findings are woefully outdated when compared to today's youth and society.

Maybe, maybe not, there's more recent stuff out there on the subject but most of it is on sites like blogs and "mommy sites".
The logic remains that when negative results of an action are removed and often replaced with positive payoffs there's no incentive to avoid them.

Needs to come from parents and science class, and the media? From science class? You mean, like science class in school? Seriously, is that what you mean?
Because really if "science class" gives the kids the information that they would get in a sex ed class... what exactly are you talking about?
Sex Ed? Science? I guess it'll all come out in the wash.

You drinking again? Do you know of any other place for a science class then school? When I went to school sex ed was taught as part of the science class.

Seems to me that the media does indeed depict sex as fun, which I hate to break it to you:it is, But the media also seems to discourage teen pregnancy. Public service annoncement type stuff. I don't get those late night channels you get on cable TV, Rick.
I'm sure they're pretty saucy.

Do not have cable TV or even dish, but I still see far more sex on TV and very few signs the media is trying to discourage teen pregnancy. Heck I see more public service messages about colon cancer then teen pregnancy.

Why not mandatory vasectomy? It's reversible with microsurgery.
Once Timmy becomes an adult and can pass an I.Q. test and a personality test, of course.

That is even worse then forcing girls onto the pill.

.

So, if they call it science instead of Sex-Ed, you're ok with it? I'm not sure who has and hasn't been drinking.
Lots of cobwebs up there in a 56 year old brain, and it only gets worse.

Uh Iggy, where have I said that I was against sex ed??????

I will admit I think the lefties not wanting to teach that abstinence is the only sure way to avoid pregnancy is wrong, but I have never said I was against sex ed in general. In fact I think it should be taught the way my old 9th grade science teacher did it. "If you put tab A into slot B, sometimes you get item C. There are birth control methods like condoms that can help, but the only sure way is not to do it." The slides he had for that had us all laughing and talking about it for weeks, and I only remember one girl getting knocked up.

It was taught as part of 10th grade biology when I was in school. We were also taught a bit about it in the 5th grade, but that was more about puberty than it was about sex ed.

Another opinion,

Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro to Mayor Bloomberg: Stop funding 'entitlements for young mothers'

“Bottom line is we need to stop rewarding bad behavior,” Molinaro said. “Until you do that you’ll just perpetuate the issue, as young girls notice their friends getting an apartment, medical care and a welfare check all because they had a baby,”

“New York City has been a national leader in allocating resources to make birth control available and provide sex education to young people, but at the same time we must send a strong message that teen pregnancy has consequences - and those consequences are extremely negative, life-altering and most often disproportionately borne by young women."

Do they not have sex ed. in Vegas either?

Teen Pregnancy Doubled in a Year

An unfortunate high has been recorded in the North West for teen pregnancy since last year, doubling the count in 2011 of 4143 totaling an unbelievable 8676. These are the statistics given from the births from teen mothers...

We can send our youths to programs, update studies in health classes and even become more involved at home, but when it comes down to it they are going to do whatever they want.
