Listen to BRCC's Medevac Podcast where they talk to recovered (and recovering) wounded veterans. Severe pain can make you contemplate (or do) things that you'd normally never consider.
I am just curios, in this case the shooter had a spouse. And that spouse was an actual doctor in the city in which he lived. I think pain management and or medications was available with a quick look across the dinner table don’t you? Yes if you look hard enough his wife has been named. We have not gotten the entire story from the Tulsa Police Chief (again not condoning the violence even for the real reasons I suspect) But the “in pain” theory doesnt add up.

I have no idea if you can/should pain meds to a spouse (I really don't know if it's ethical).

Could have been on heavy doses of steroids for inflammation, that can really screw people up.

My doctors won't prescribe something if another doctor has prescribed something for the same condition--they won't even authorize refills. I've not been on real pain meds, but from the people I know who have had severe chronic pain, the only thing worse than the pain itself is having to jump through the hoops of fire that have been put in place in response to the opioid problem. It's pretty damn difficult to get it if you really need it because doctors are scared of losing their licenses over it.

What I am saying if it was that severe comfort measures could have and should have been taken, and with a doctor at home that should have been a no brainer.

My doctor is pretty quick to respond, she gave me Lyrica for shingles instantly (i didn’t fill it because i don’t like pain killers……but if the pain was that intense i would have taken them before i killed someon. The sTory we were fed is a sham

What my primary care physician told me is that once you've been referred to a specialist for care, they completely turn that area of care over to the specialist. I gathered that it was unethical for him to interfere in the treatment (including authorizing refills on meds in that area), though I don't know if it's strictly unethical, or if he just thought it was.

I can also tell you that I know someone who was in severe chronic pain, to the point that he could no longer walk upright, or even at all for more than a few steps, and he had a hell of a time getting pain meds. (And he had diagnosed damage to his spine.) He was forced into counseling and to go through an arduous pain management system for him to be able to get any kind of treatment that would give him any relief.

We don't know the whole story at this point, so there's no way to say if it's a sham or not.
